ROOMS

Reverent of the island's many past lives, the rooms at Captain Whidbey champion the stories behind things, with novel interplays of old and new and through natural harmony with the surrounding culture, the landscape and the sea. Every area on the property is different, with historic details and custom furnishings maintained throughout. Whether in the Historic Lodge, the idiosyncratic Cabins or the Lagoon Rooms, you’ll find intimate accommodations that are not just a respite, but an infinite opportunity for new and evocative human experience and meaningful communion.

LAGOON ROOMS

The Lagoon Rooms are our serene world-away. With a subtle Scandinavian influence, natural materials and inspiration culled from architects and industrial designers of the 20th century, like Aino Aalto and Mira Nakashima, the Lagoon Rooms and lawn have a sense of Utopian communal living with refined sensibilities. All finishes are sustainably-sourced and non-toxic, with renewable, warm and characterful Mongolian cashmere goat hair carpet as a backdrop to hand-crafted, custom-designed furniture and select new and vintage lighting. Beautiful furniture by John Gnorski, artfully and locally stitched woven fiber blankets by Hannah Ruth Levi, ample and cozy day beds allow for a refined place of repose and rest. A comfortable backdrop to watching birds on the lagoon or preparing for explorations of Whidbey Island.

HISTORIC LODGE

Standing stalwart as if a ship run aground, the historic lodge is the heart of Captain Whidbey — its stone fireplace the gathering place of the grounds and the center from which all warmth of Captain Whidbey radiates. The coveted and cozy Historic Lodge rooms take on the air of a secret clubhouse up above the ship’s fray. Virtually unchanged from 1907, the traditions too remain. Shared bathrooms, creaky floorboards and the occasional glass clinking from the tavern below. The rooms are rustic, for our most adventurous (and least private) guests, with views of Penn Cove or our exquisite flower garden. The Historic Lodge is older than any human being on Earth. Respect her.

Amenities include intimate lounging, herbal sleep aids and a curated library of inspirational and classic sea tales, useful local guides and the best of Whidbey Island history.

CABINS

The cabins, perched above the shores of Penn Cove, imbue a sense of privacy,  place and idiosyncratic belonging, where anything we can imagine as well as whatever arises is possible. In an effort to express local design vernacular and to share the stage with people we truly admire, each of the four Penn Cove cabins are outfitted by collaborations with the best retail chanderlies, designers and placemakers in the Pacific Northwest: the iconic Filson, Seattle design shop Glasswing, Vancouver studio We the Nomads and local Whidbey Island goods purveyor Edit, hailing from Langley.

Each cabin has a fireplace, a King bed, and private porches. You’ll probably see a whale from one of them.
